Iggy Pop Headed To "Avenue B" For New Album

Punk pioneer Iggy Pop is set to return to record racks later this year with an album that places his new music next to a few spoken word tracks.

For the effort (titled "Avenue B" after one of New York's harsher thoroughfares) Pop teamed with producer Don Was, the man who helmed Pop's 1990 album "Brick By Brick.

Iggy teamed up with drummer Larry Mullins, bassist Hal Craigen, guitarist Whitey Kirst, and guitarist Pete Marshall for the album, and he reached out to progressive jazz trio Medeski, Martin and Wood for help on the tracks "Avenue B," "Felt the Luxury," and "Yo Yo Hablo Espanol." Other titles from the album include "Long Distance," "Miss Argentina," "Motorcycles.

The album is scheduled to arrive on September 7 from Virgin Records, and Iggy is expected to tour behind it this fall.
