Fans anticipating the release of No Doubt's long-awaited new album will have to wait a little longer.

The band's first full-length since 1995's "Tragic Kingdom" won't be making its hoped-for-November release date (see [article id="1432723"]"No Doubt Plans Release Date, Tour For New Album"[/article]), thanks in part to the last-minute addition of a few more songs to the recording process. The record is now expected out early in 2000, according to the band's publicist.

On the group's official Web site, guitarist Tom Dumont reported that the bandmembers have just returned from a two-week vacation after recording and mastering 14 songs, and they're now back in the studio cutting some recently written material.

The "Los Angeles Times" reported that No Doubt is looking to add a few "rockers" to balance out the album, tentatively titled "Artificial Sweetener." According to the "Times," the new effort has stepped almost completely away from the ska-based beats of

the group's earlier career, and its sound is now more reminiscent of a Beatles-esque early '80s new wave band.

The extended recording process has meant that No Doubt has gone through three scheduled producers; the early days saw the return of "Tragic Kingdom" producer Matthew Wilder, followed by Michael Beinhorn, who had to bow out off prior to the sessions due to scheduling conflicts. The producer of record for the last six months has been Glen Ballard, whom the band credits with slimming down and tightening up its songs.

Although it's not clear which tunes will end up on the final album, song titles reportedly include "Simple Kind Of Life," "Too Late Now," and "You're So Foxy." Dumont also reported in a previous Web site post that the group has cut a "super secret special song" called "Waiting Room," but he declined to elaborate.

The band's publicist was unable to shed any light on Dumont's comments, nor on his most recent post, dated August 22, where the guitarist hinted

that "something cool" is going to happen in October.

No Doubt was expected to embark on a club tour in October, but the group's publicist told MTV News that with the album delay, that is no longer the case.
