98 Degrees Planning "Mature" New Album In The New Year Concert

The men of 98 Degrees won't be gathering moss anytime soon.

After appearing in a slew of holiday specials and releasing the seasonal album "This Christmas," the muscular foursome will be winding down the millennium with a New Year's Eve performance in MTV's Times Square studios. They've already got some big plans for the New Year, as the group's Jeff Timmons related to MTV News.

[article id="1448762"]"We are going to... finish off in Times Square on New Year's, and then we're going take about a month off, then start a new album,"[/article] Jeff said.

For the new venture, the guys plan to expand their studio horizons by taking control behind the scenes as well as on the mics.

[article id="1448762"]"This next album is going to be a very, very mature album,"[/article] Jeff began. [article id="1448762"]"You're gonna see us grow vocally as well as musically. We're gonna write a lot more songs than we did on ["98 Degrees

And Rising"], and produce probably the majority of the album. So definitely look for us to take a step in a more mature direction as a group." [RealVideo][/article]

98 Degrees' current direction has got them ranked high up on the "Billboard" album chart with two different releases: "This Christmas" stands at number 27 after seven weeks, while the triple-platinum "98 Degrees And Rising" rises to number 38 after over a year on the chart.

In a matter of weeks, the group will be celebrating New Year's Eve with Blink-182, Goo Goo Dolls, Christina Aguilera, Jay-Z, Bush, and Puff Daddy (among others) at the "MTV 2 Large" celebration on New Year's Eve.
