Prepare for a meeting of the teen pop titans.
One of the many surprises set for Thursday night’s 1999 MTV Video Music Awards broadcast was let out of the bag on “Total Request Live” when ’N Sync talked about teaming with Britney Spears for a performance on the awards show.
“We’re doing ’Tearin’ Up My Heart,’ but it’s not the usual ’Tearin’ Up My Heart,'”
’N Sync’s Lance told VJ Dave Holmes during Wednesday’s “TRL.”
“Basically, they were like, ’We want to do a pop set, blah, blah, blah,’ and we were like, ’Sure, we’ll do it'” J.C. added. “But we wanted to do it a little bit different, and you’ll see what happens tonight.” “There’s a whole concept behind the performance, so we wanted to make sure it wasn’t just, ’Hi, we’re here,'” Justin explained. “It’s a whole concept, so it’ll be good.” But precisely what that concept is remains to be seen. “We’re not going to tell you,” Justin said. “You’ll just have to watch.” ’N Sync, Britney Spears, and the rest of this year’s VMA crop will start filing into New York’s Metropolitan Opera House at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening, which is when MTV News’ coverage begins. You can tune into MTV News’ pre-show coverage at 6:30, and check in with MTV News Online for updates throughout the night.
