'N Sync, Britney Teaming Up For VMA Performance

Prepare for a meeting of the teen pop titans.

One of the many surprises set for Thursday night's 1999 MTV Video Music Awards broadcast was let out of the bag on "Total Request Live" when 'N Sync talked about teaming with Britney Spears for a performance on the awards show.

[article id="1448583"] "We're doing 'Tearin' Up My Heart,' but it's not the usual 'Tearin' Up My Heart,'"[/article] 'N Sync's Lance told VJ Dave Holmes during Wednesday's "TRL."

[article id="1448583"] "Basically, they were like, 'We want to do a pop set, blah, blah, blah,' and we were like, 'Sure, we'll do it'"[/article] J.C. added. [article id="1448583"] "But we wanted to do it a little bit different, and you'll see what happens tonight."[/article]

[article id="1448583"] "There's a whole concept behind the performance, so we wanted to make sure it wasn't just, 'Hi, we're here,'"[/article] Justin explained. [article id="1448583"] "It's a whole concept, so it'll be good."[/article]

But precisely what that concept is remains to be seen. [article id="1448583"] "We're not going to tell you,"[/article] Justin said. [article id="1448583"] "You'll just have to watch." [/article]

'N Sync, Britney Spears, and the rest of this year's VMA crop will start filing into New York's Metropolitan Opera House at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening, which is when MTV News' coverage begins.
