Megadeth Talks Tour As Dates Are Announced

Nearly a month after releasing their latest effort, "Risk," the metal die-hards of Megadeth have finally announced plans to tour the U.S. in support of the album.

Buoyed by the mainstream success of its sports anthem hit "Crush 'Em," the band gets things rolling next week on its hometurf in Phoenix and will then steamroll across the States through the end of November. Megadeth then heads to South America for much of the winter before mounting the second leg of its U.S. tour in March.

Static-X and Loudmouth will be on board to open the first month of dates, and future openers remain to be determined.

The band has already trotted out its new material in front of U.S. audiences at a few high-profile one-offs such as Woodstock '99, and so far fans seem to be taking to Megadeth's latest evolution.

[article id="1447966"] "One of the saddest things is that a lot of people in the hard rock and heavy metal community... they're actually very conservative

people,"[/article] Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine told MTV News of his concern about the sonic chances the band takes on "Risk." [article id="1447966"] "They smoke the same type of cigarettes. They smoke the same type of cigars. They will not drink anything but their type of liquor, whether it's beer or hard stuff. They know a couple of sexual positions. They like only one type of hair-colored woman or man, and so on and so forth. It's either Chevy or Ford, or it's the WWF or the WCW, so they're really set in their ways. So we addressed the issue that a lot of people weren't going to be willing for us to change, and we did play certain songs that we thought would satisfy their appetite." [RealVideo][/article]

After seeing "Crush 'Em" adopted by World Championship Wrestling star Bill Goldberg and hearing it mark the introduction to the recent Oscar De la Hoya-Felix Trinidad fight, the band currently sits on the brink of gold sales status (500,000 copies).

In addition to the tour, Megadeth will try to keep the ball rolling with the second single from "Risk," the track "Insomnia.
