Lollapalooza '99 In Negotiations With Possible Headliners

Lollapalooza lives? Maybe so. Not wanting to repeat last year's mistake of waiting too late to land a headlining act, Lollapalooza organizers are now in discussions with two unnamed acts about signing up for next year's summer festival.

Although Lollapalooza '99 is still in the tentative planning stages, festival co-founder Ted Gardner said that like every year, they're trying to secure the main stage acts before going to work on the other aspects of the tour.

Last year's outing was abandoned because they didn't have a suitable headlining act, as Marilyn Manson, Green Day and Garbage all turned down the post that year for various reasons.

Gardner indicated that confirmation for next year's headliners could occur as early as mid-November, with additional tour news to follow. The co-founder also said that he would like to change 1999's Lollapalooza by cutting back on the number of main stage acts, who would in turn play to larger sized crowds at night, while bringing in more

bands for afternoon performances on second and third stages.
