Korn Offers Free MP3 Of New Single

Korn has posted "Falling Away From Me," the first single from its upcoming album "Issues," in an unprotected, no-time-out MP3 file on the band's Web site (www.korn.com) against the advice of its attorneys and the "corporate establishment."

In an attempt to start an online chain email, the band is asking all of its fans to listen to the song via the Web. A statement on the band's site reads, "We're so psyched about [the new album] that we wanted to give all you guys, the TRUE Korn fans -- a gift from us.... The attorneys and the corporate establishment, who are so afraid of the Internet, said 'no way.'"

Those who like what they hear are being asked to email the file's information to at least ten friends and ask them to do the same. After doing so, fans can sign the "I Downloaded the Korn Single For Free" guestbook on the band's site.

For each person who signs, Korn will donate 25 cents, up to $250,000, to the charities

Childhelp USA and Children Of The Night.

The statement in its entirety reads (with asterisks added by MTV):

"Hey F***ers! Let's start a f***in' chain email!!

"Our new record, Issues, will hit the stores on November 16th. We busted our asses on this record and we think this is the best sh** we've ever done!

"We're so psyched about it that we wanted to give all you guys, the TRUE Korn fans -- a gift from us. We want you to have the first single from Issues, 'Falling Away From Me' in an unprotected, no time-out MP3 file. The attorneys and the corporate establishment, who are so afraid of the Internet, said 'no way.'

"Please listen to the single. If you like it, send this email it to at least 10 friends and music fans and ask each of them to do the same. It's a f***in' musical chain letter! People turning people on to great music.

"As many of you already know, we are very concerned about doing whatever we can to combat child abuse. When you go to

download the song, sign our guestbook. For each person who does this, Korn and ARTISTdirect.com will donate $.25 to Children of the Night and Childhelp USA, two organizations that do a great job keeping kids off the street.

"Thanks again for everything you have done for us. Our fans are the reason we continue to make music. Korn fans rule!"
