K-Ci & JoJo Discuss Overcoming Sophomore Slump

After debuting in the Top 10 of the Billboard Pop Album charts with "It's Real," R&B duo K-Ci & JoJo is now eyeing the top spot on the Pop Singles chart with "Tell Me It's Real," the first offering from "It's Real," which is currently sitting pretty at number two.

The LP has already been certified platinum after only six weeks in release, a sure sign that K-Ci and JoJo have overcome the dreaded "sophomore slump." The two are certainly no strangers to the game, however, as they first took the plunge into music back in 1988 as members of Jodeci.

After witnessing the rise and the fall of that group, K-Ci & JoJo are aware of the peaks and pitfalls of the music business, and as they recently explained to the MTV Radio Network, they were prepared for however the public might have responded to the new album.

"You always hope for [success]," JoJo said, "but the way this business goes, you never know. Fortunately for me and my brother, we've never really put out a record that

wasn't successful, but it's always in the back of your mind, 'When is that luck gonna run out?' You don't expect [for success], but when it happens, it's a good thing."

In related news, K-Ci & JoJo will make their TV acting debut along with Chante Moore, Rahsaan Patterson, Jesse Powell, and others in the upcoming CBS-TV miniseries, "Shake, Rattle & Roll", scheduled to air November 7 and 10 (see [article id="1427807"]"K-Ci & JoJo, Terence Trent D'Arby, Chante Moore Added To Musical Miniseries"[/article]).
