Madonna may not be touring this year, but she did take the stage Monday night as part of Sting's annual Rainforest Foundation benefit in New York City.

Elton John, James Taylor, Billy Joel, Emmylou Harris and Joe Cocker were also on-hand, along with Roberta Flack who joined Madonna for a rendition of the Beatles' hit "Twist And Shout" (written by the Isley Brothers).

As we first reported earlier this month, Madonna said that her upcoming film schedule will make it impossible for her to mount a tour this year, but she hopes to hit the road in support of her new album, "Ray Of Light," in the spring of 1999.
