De La Soul Joined By Gang Starr, Macy Gray, More

On Thursday, De La Soul's New York show turned into a hip-hop who's-who when a host of unbilled special guests joined the group on stage.

Gang Starr, Macy Gray, Common Sense, Xzibit, Tha Alkaholiks, Pete Rock, Prince Paul, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, and M.O.P. all joined the seminal hip-hop outfit at New York's Roxy Thursday night to help De La introduce new music from its upcoming "Artofficial Intelligence" album. The aforementioned artists hit the stage as De La awaited one missing link, Posdnous. The De La MC arrived at the sold-out show late, as his girlfriend had just given birth to a 7 pound, 7 ounce baby boy named Kasai.

As an hour and a half unfolded before Posdnous' arrival, Xzibit performed with Tha Alkaholiks, eventually turning the stage over to Talib. Common then joined Talib for a version of "Reflection Eternal" before putting in his own set. Just as De La took the stage, Pos finally joined his counterparts, rolling out a collection of old school favorites

like "Oodles Of O's," "Buddy," and "Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)."

De La plans to roll out "Artofficial Intelligence" as a hip-hop trilogy of sorts, with the first CD of the three-CD set arriving in late June with appearances by Redman, Beastie Boys, Busta Rhymes, Xzibit, and Chaka Khan.
