Da Brat Steps Outside Comfort Zone For New LP

With less than five dates left in her opening spot on the Mariah Carey tour, the countdown has begun for the release of Da Brat's long-awaited third album, "Unrestricted," due out on April 11.

The Chicago-bred MC, who resides in Atlanta, recently told the MTV Radio Network that she intentionally decided to record the new album in outside of her familiar stomping grounds in order to focus on the sessions.

[article id="1442454"] "We actually went to Nashville, J.D. and I, and the whole crew, to record,"[/article] Brat recalled. [article id="1442454"]"Because we wanted to be away from all the stress. And it's better when you aren't around too many people, you know, and just your loved ones. I had never been to Nashville but they have wonderful studios. It's like, every record label has a piece there or studio there. It's like a little music city." [RealAudio][/article]

Unrestricted" features collaborations with Ja Rule, Twista,

Kelly Price, Mystikal, Jermiane Dupri, and Tyrese, who guests on the first single, "What Chu Like," the video for which debuted earlier this week on MTV's "Making The Video.

Meanwhile, Da Brat is scheduled to appear in an Atlanta court on April 13 to answer assault charges stemming from a March 8 altercation at an Atlanta nightclub (see [article id="1427818"]"Da Brat Arrested For Battery In Club Incident"[/article]).
