D'Angelo Announces Tour, Anti-Violence Stance

Silky soul singer D'Angelo paid a visit to a Los Angeles-area high school on Wednesday to announce plans for his summer tour, slated to kick off on June 29 in Chicago.

D'Angelo's upcoming tour is being co-sponsored by the fashion line Levi's Jeans and PAX, an organization aimed at mobilizing young people against gun violence, particularly in schools.

To underscore that point, D'Angelo was joined at the press conference by Devon Adams, a student from Columbine High School, and the singer was the first to sign the Levi's-sponsored "Denim Wall" showing support for PAX's Youth Petition To End Gun Violence.

The Denim Wall will travel across the country with the D'Angelo tour, and organizers are hoping to get one million signatures over the course of the summer. Those unable to attend the concerts can still participate in the PAX Petition by signing the Virtual Denim Wall set up at www.levismusic.com.

For each person who goes online and signs the Virtual Denim Wall, Levi's plans to donate $1 to PAX, up to a maximum contribution of $25,000.

During the event, Hamilton High School, the site of the press conference, was honored for its Students For Peace club, a campaign that has lobbied California legislators about pending gun control legislation as well as implementing anti-gun programs in the school.
