Coolio Hooks Up With Ed McMahon For New "Star Search," Plans Next Album

Coolio and Ed McMahon.

Yes, that's right. The rapper is currently revamping the defunct "Star Search" television series with McMahon, who is a longtime friend.

Though little is known about the project, as it is still in its early stages, a spokesperson for Coolio says that both he and McMahon will co-host the program, which has yet to find a network.

As we reported last week, the rapper will also be turning up on the tube in an upcoming episode of "Malcolm & Eddie" that may see him starring in his own spin off series (see [article id="1427466"]"Coolio Lands Role In Potential UPN Spin-Off"[/article]). Coolio will also soon be seen in the feature film "Tyrone," which sees the rapper play three different characters.

All this acting work does not mean that Coolio has given up music. The rapper is also finishing up work on his upcoming album, titled "Dead Man Walkin,'" which will hit store shelves by early summer. The album will feature such guests as Bone

Thugs-N-Harmony's Krayzie Bone, Cypress Hill's B-Real, and country great Kenny Rogers, who contributes to a rap version of his classic hit "The Gambler." Since Coolio has left his former label Tommy Boy Records because of "irreconcilable differences," the album has yet to find a home. Talks with other labels have already begun.

Finally, in an unrelated legal note, Coolio pled no contest to carrying a concealed weapon inside a vehicle on Wednesday in Southwest Superior Court in Torrance, California. The criminal case stems from a September arrest for various firearm, drug, and traffic violations. The rest of the charges were previously dropped. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 9.
