Coolio To Race For Charity

Coolio will slip behind the steering wheel of a racecar next month for a charity event being held as part the 1999 Toyota Grand Prix in Long Beach, California.

The rapper has been tapped to compete against the likes of Melissa Joan Heart, Carl Lewis, Donny Osmond and others for the celebrity portion of the race, scheduled for April 17, the day before the pro drivers take the field.

Portions of the celebrity contest are slated to air on ABC on April 18 during the live telecast of the Toyota Grand Prix, while ESPN will broadcast the charity event in its entirety on April 25 at 5 p.m.

In conjunction with the race, organizers plan to contribute $90,000 to Racing for Kids, a program that benefits Southern California children's hospitals, with $5,000 being donated in the name of each participant.
