Silverchair Cover The Clash

June 6 [14:00 EDT] -- Silverchair has been in a recording studio in Sydney, Australia cutting a cover of "London's Burning" for the much anticipated Clash tribute album due out this fall.

The young Aussie trio is the latest addition to the tribute which is being produced by Hein Hoven for Ark 21 Records, the new label formed by former IRS Records founder Miles Copeland.

Clash singer/guitarist Joe Strummer was originally scheduled to supply liner notes and cover art was being solicited from bassist Paul Simonon but last week Hoven reported the company's been so far been unable to confirm either member's participation.

Artists lined up to date include 311, Bush, Rancid, Frosted, Goldfinger, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Moby with Heather Nova. Hoven reported they were still working hard at landing Hank Williams Jr. but hope was fading for Mike Ness and Scott Weiland. Other names being bantered about include the Brian Setzer Big Band, Tricky and Poe.

also revealed that the next phase of the Clash tribute will be a live concert tentatively scheduled for the Greek Theater in Los Angeles Sept. 26 with 311, Rancid, Poe, the Mighty, Mighty Bosstones and Goldfinger. The show will benefit the L.A. Childrens Hospital.

The release will also be in conjunction with an MTV "Rockumentary" on the Clash and the making of the album which will also be available on home video.
