Mariah Carey On The Cinematic Origins Of "Heartbreaker"

With her "Heartbreaker" single hanging strong at number five on the "Billboard" singles chart, Mariah Carey's new album, "Rainbow," is set to debut at number two on next week's album charts, right behind Rage Against The Machine's agit-prop LP, "The Battle Of Los Angeles.

Rainbow" actually contains both the original version of "Heartbreaker" as well as the popular remix version, which includes guest vocals from Da Brat and Missy Elliott. Carey, who's making her movie-acting debut in the new Chris O'Donnell film "The Bachelor," told MTV News' John Norris that she originally crafted the song for another movie project.

[article id="1441203"]"Actually, I wrote 'Heartbreaker' for the movie 'All That Glitters,'"[/article] Carey said, [article id="1441203"]"[that movie's] been in development for two years at this point, and it's gone through a lot of different stages, and finally the studio's really happy with it, and they're ready to go."[/article]

[article id="1441203"]"We're just, like, going back and forth with different directors,"[/article] she continued, [article id="1441203"]"but it was perfect for the movie, because it's very '80s. [The beat is] from actually a Stacy Lattisaw record called 'Attack Of The Name Game,' that I didn't even know. I usually am 'loop queen,' like I usually know all those things." [RealVideo][/article]

If "All That Glitters" does get made, Carey says she would star as (what else) a young singer trying to break into the music business in the early '80s. For the soundtrack, Carey told MTV that she's toying with working with such vintage names as Rick James and Teena Marie.
