Brandy To Receive Governors Award

Singer-actress Brandy Norwood will be honored by her music industry peers next month, as she will be one of the recipients of this year's Governors Award from the Los Angeles chapter of the Recording Academy.

Brandy will be presented with the award along with this year's other winners, Warner/Chappell Music CEO Les Bider, film composer David Foster, and pianist-producer James Newton-Howard, during the annual Membership Awards Luncheon on June 15 at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The Governors Award pays tribute to long-standing members of the oldest chapter in the Recording Academy whose creative accomplishments have crossed musical boundaries. In 1999, Jewel, Don Was, Carole Bayer Sager, and Jerry Goldsmith were honored with the awards.

On May 18, Brandy will be in New York City to help unveil the UPN Network's Fall 2000 lineup at a gala event at the Theater At Madison Square Garden, along with her brother -- and one of her "Moesha" co-stars -- Ray J,

and other UPN stars, including WWF's Triple H and Undertaker

Brandy's "Moesha" series recently surpassed its 100th episode (see [article id="1426509"]"Brandy, MC Lyte Celebrate 'Moesha' Milestone"[/article]), and this coming season will mark the series' sixth season on air since the show premiered on January 23, 1996.
