A Tribe Called Quest Lands Beasties Opening Slot, Cancels European Tour

After their paths cross at this weekend's Tibetan Freedom Concert, the Beastie Boys and A Tribe Called Quest will be hitting the road together.

Tribe will serve as the opening act for a Beasties U.S. tour that kicks off on July 31 in Seattle (see [article id="1425481"]"Beastie Boys Set New York Club Show"[/article]). Before that, Tribe will sneak in a date at the New York club Tramps on July 18 to warm up.

While Stateside fans will get to see Tribe in action, fans in Europe are not as lucky. The rap outfit has canceled its upcoming European tour in order to devote more time to its fifth album, "The Love Movement," which is set to arrive on August 25.

Spokespeople for the group say that personal problems like February's fire at the home of Tribe's Q-Tip (see [article id="1433421"]"Tribe's Q-Tip Loses Unreleased Songs In Fire"[/article]) as well as recording issues have made the cancellation an unavoidable necessity.

Spokespeople

for Tribe's label, Jive Records, say that the cancellation has nothing to do with recent rumors that Tribe is disbanding, and that such rumors are completely false.
