Tom Jones Duets With Robbie Williams, Chrissie Hynde, Barenaked Ladies, More

Welsh crooner Tom Jones is jumping back on the rock-duet bandwagon with an album of collaborations with artists such as Robbie Williams, Barenaked Ladies, Chrissie Hynde, Van Morrison, the Cardigans, and Natalie Imbruglia.

Jones (who turned 59 this week), best known for schmaltzy hits like "What's New Pussycat," and "It's Not Unusual," returned to the charts in 1998 when he collaborated with Art of Noise on a cover of Prince's "Kiss." A similar formula will be in full effect on Jones' new album, "Reload!" which will feature mostly cover songs and duets with plenty of cutting-edge artists.

According to U.K. label Gut Records, the other guests on "Reload!" include Simply Red's Mick Hucknall, Manic Street Preachers' James Dean Bradfield, Stereophonics' Kelly Jones, the James Taylor Quartet, the Divine Comedy, and Heather Small of M People. Catatonia's Cerys Matthews and Space, who collaborated on the U.K. hit/homage "The Ballad of Tom Jones," are slated to appear on the album as

well.

Also featured on the album will be songs that were originally recorded by Iggy Pop, Lenny Kravitz, Talking Heads, INXS, the Kinks, and Portishead, among others.

According to Gut, the overall producer for the project is Stephen Hague (New Order, James), and the record will be out this September. A U.S. release is expected, but no information is currently available.

The track list has not yet been finalized, but here's what Tom will be singing and who he'll be swinging with on "Reload!" thus far:

  • "Burning Down the House" (Talking Heads) with the Cardigans
  • "Never Tear Us Apart" (INXS) with Natalie Imbruglia
