With fans eagerly awaiting the follow-up to No Doubt's 1995 breakthrough, "Tragic Kingdom," the band has announced that it has chosen Alanis Morissette's producer and writing partner Glen Ballard to handle No Doubt's new record.

Though the pop ska outfit had been previously talking to Michael Beinhorn (see [article id="1432728"]"No Doubt Ready To Record 'Tragic Kingdom' Follow-Up"[/article]), the producer behind Marilyn Manson's "Mechanical Animals" and Hole's "Celebrity Skin," the group decided to go in a different direction.

Ballard, best known for his success with Morissette's and Wilson Phillips, also produced a pair of songs on Van Halen's "Greatest Hits" album, and co-wrote three tracks included on Aerosmith's "Nine Lives" record. The producer has also formed his own label, Java Records, whose roster currently includes the likes of Lisa Marie Presley and Billy Idol.

No Doubt claims to have written about 30 songs for the new record, and now plan to head

into a Los Angeles studio with Ballard in February.

Meanwhile, No Doubt have recorded a song called "New" for the soundtrack to the upcoming movie, "Go." The track was co-produced with the Talking Head's Jerry Harrison and mixed by Jack Joseph Puig, and according to a post by guitarist Tom Dumont on the band's official website, No Doubt plans on shooting a video for the song around the end of January.
