Singer readies arena jaunt before joining George Strait stadium tour.

Alan Jackson will begin the year 2001 with a tour of arenas in the northeastern United States before joining the George Strait stadium tour.

The singer, whose latest album, When Somebody Loves You (RealAudio excerpt of title track), was released November 7, will play 10 concerts in arenas in nine cities, beginning January 31 in Albany, New York.

Sara Evans will open for Jackson at a February 2 concert in Pittsburgh, and Lee Ann

Womack will open on February 9 in Buffalo, New York. Opening acts for all shows have not yet been set.

The Strait festival, on which Jackson will be second on the bill to Strait, is set to open in late March. Evans, Womack, Lonestar, Brad Paisley and Asleep at the Wheel are also scheduled to be on the tour, with planned stadium dates in 16 cities.
