Lady DJ Collective SuperJane Embark On U.S. Tour
Chicago female-DJ collective SuperJane are taking their diverse house sounds on the road for the first time with a 16-city tour that kicked off Wednesday (Aug. 9) in Seattle.
The SuperJane USA Tour 2000 will feature the founding SuperJane jocks DJ Heather, Colette and Dayhota, along with Chicago veteran Lady D and Austrian DJ Electric Indigo.
"You can expect really solid, fun music on this tour," Colette said. "Everyone playing definitely has her own style, so the audience can expect some diversity as well. All of us at SuperJane are really good friends, so I think that will make the experience even more interesting."
In a unique performance style, Colette sings over the deep-house records she spins, a craft she has honed at various Chicago residencies. She currently performs at Crobar on alternating Wednesdays and will release her debut full-length, In the Sun, Aug. 22 on the Chicago label Afterhours.
DJ Heather is a prominent house DJ who has also backed Common, the Roots and Jamiroquai on the road. She recently released the mix-CD Revolving House. Dayhota, on the other end of the dance-music spectrum, specializes in high-energy house and techno.
Together, SuperJane's DJs promise a wide range of musical styles on the decks sure to keep dance floors filled.
Lady D, a record executive for Chicago's Strictly Hype Recordings, spins soulful tech house, while Electric Indigo is known for her vocal-heavy techno.
The SuperJane tour, which is being presented by the Chicago booking and promotions company Genius Insanity, is based on the theme F.I.R.E., an acronym for Female Ingenuity Redefining Energy.
"The whole idea of the tour is so exciting," said Colette, who has sung on tracks for top Chicago house producers DJ Sneak, Gemini and Ralph Rosario. "We will all be performing individual sets, probably one hour each, so everyone should try and get to the venues early. We are also planning on having local talent open up for us in each city."
