It wasn’t long before XLA was recognized by his peers, and has been noticed by various professional associations including the Society of Authors and Composers of Canada (SOCAN), l’Association des Professionels de la Chanson et de la Musique (APCM), l’Alliance National de l’Industrie Musicale (ANIM), l’Union des Artistes (UDA), and the Ontario and Canadian Arts Council. In 2006 and 2007, XLA was awarded artist grants from the Ontario Arts Council for “Song & Music” and was later nominated in four categories for “Best New Discovery”, “Best Author-Composer” (SOCAN)?, “Best Music Video” and “Best Album Artwork” during the 2009 “Gala Trille Or” Music Awards. He was chosen as the “Artist of the Year” for “Excellence in Music – Vocal Technique, Classical Guitar and Piano” at l’École de Musique Culture X in Montreal, and his single “J’aime Jammer”, remixed by Latin Grammy Nominee Ricky Campanelli won 2nd place at the “International Riffstar Hottest Song? 2009 Competition ” (New York, USA).
Since 2009, XLA has participated in a number of shows and events across Canada, including guest appearances on radio and television, serving on panels and attending conferences and other Canadian initiatives. Gaining popularity across Canada and emerging onto the international scene, XLA has attended MIDEM in Cannes, France, South by South West (SXSW)? in Austin, Texas, USA and ANTAD? in Mexico City, Mexico. Travel and exposure to other cultures have been a key influence in his musical career, and his numerous trips across borders have allowed him to meet and collaborate with various music professionals and artists from around the world. Most recently, XLA has worked closely with the Italian DJs/Producers Ticli & Gas for their latest single “From Here?”, which was produced in cooperation with XLA’s recording engineer and vocal producer Ghislain Brind’Amour ( MixedbyGee? ).
