Roy is a multi-talented artist whose first passion is as a songwriter and musician. His portfolio of unique songs reflect his personal life experiences and rough-and-tumble views of the world. San Diego radio station KPRI’s Kenny Weissberg commented in his Music without Boundaries program that Roy’s style is “...outside the mainstream”. In 2011, sdrocknroll.com voted his song, “Everyone’s a Detective”, San Diego’s #1 song in their list of Top 5 Songs of 2011, and music legend T-Bone Burnett wrote to Roy exclaiming that, “Everyone’s a Detective” was ‘one amazing song’. He continues to write and perform, often at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach.
His CD, New Army of Ragged Angels, features a foldout booklet containing many of his unique paintings along with all the lyrics to the songs. This CD was produced by the Grammy Award winning record producer, Chris Goldsmith.
In addition to music, Roy is an accomplished artist whose work has been displayed in the San Diego area for years. He has created original art for several CD covers, inlcuding the Grammy nominated Billy Vera, guitarist Mark Ford, formerly of the Black Crows, and for his own CD, “New Army of Ragged Angels.” In addition, many of his paintings reside in personal collections.
