About Octavia Harris
On the surface, those words wouldn’t normally be in a sentence together, but be careful not to judge the cover, or you’ll miss out on how the story of the life of Octavia Harris reads. The Portland, OR bread musician wants the world to know that the music being birthed out of her comes from experience. A heady and creative young woman involved in a number of traditionally male-dominated industries, Octavia, as a secular artist going by the name of “151”, was a burgeoning pioneer of the Portland underground hip-hop scene. The tough-talking, braggadocios rapper learned to hold her own in a world were tough talk by itself was cheap. Octavia’s musical talents would take her deeper into industry ills, and while spending time home in Portland and then in California, she would see her life opened to experiences she had never planned for, such as being involved in prostitution and a homosexual lifestyle; things that, in giving her life to CHRIST in 2005, she would later be delivered from.
Octavia’s always had a knack for the cutting edge, which is on even greater display with GOD helming her decision making processes. Currently residing in Cincinnati, OH, she has become one of the most well known and well respected Gospel Rap artists out today. She’s successfully released, independently, 2005’s Inspired By GOD, 2006’s 4 The Children, and 2007’s Radical Sabbatical, and has collaborated -and shared the stage with a number of well-known Christian artists like Melinda Watts, Beckah Shae, Erica Cumbo, K-Drama, D-Maub, and more. Not willing to rest on her laurels, Octavia also continues to grow into one of the internet’s most heralded Christian producers of all types of Gospel music, as the owner of www.beatsbyoctavia.com, an online beat store that draws thousands of hits on a regular basis. Octavia’s production credits are ever increasing and too lengthy to list.
While preparing release of her forthcoming solo project, “Be Myself”, on which she not only performs, but also produced, Octavia continues to show her life away from the stage validates her performance on it. Serving as an active member of Towne Worship Center in Cincinnati, Octavia aspires for her music to produce results outside of the studio, looking to expand her vision to effectively reach youth and young adults on a multitude of levels, which has led to the development of “CHRIST NATION”, a concept youth center which would be used to create faith based music, media and entertainment for youth, by youth.
With ever an eye on the big picture, Octavia’s motive and passion are to share her gifts with whomever possible, as she presents to them what GOD has given her through her life’s experiences, which gives her a unique perspective and is reflected in the music she makes, with songs that not only talk about victories, but also abuse, being single and abstinent, along with other relevant issues that aren’t often discussed generally within the church’s four walls, to an ever evolving fan base. Octavia keeps an ear to the pulse of what’s popular, but will not compromise her relationship with the LORD. At the beginning and end of the day, Octavia’s heart for people remains the same: “give them hope through an understanding of just how much GOD loves them.”
“Anybody can make millions selling sex – that’s easy. The challenge is to make a million without selling sex. I want to show young ladies, it’s possible to do it with your MIND and not just your BODY. #BEMYSELF” – Octavia Harris
Octavia’s current single from the forthcoming “Be Myself” album, “Never feat. D-Maub” is currently available on iTunes and other digital media outlets. “Be Myself”, the full length album, is due out 2013.
