About Katye Hamlin
Born and raised in Bryan/College Station, Texas, Katye began playing the piano and singing from the age of four.
As her love for music grew, so did her love for sports. As a teenager, Katye overcame two knee surgeries and earned a softball scholarship to pitch for Rutgers University. This time, career-ending injuries brought her back to Texas to finish her education at UT Austin. One morning of her senior year, Katye was in a terrible accident where she blacked out due to a rare heart condition that she was unaware of. Two nose surgeries later, and unable to sing for over twelve weeks, Katye's yearning to sing and perform again was too strong to ignore
After graduation, Katye worked for a couple TV stations: Fox 7 Austin and Dallas CW33. While in Dallas, she learned to play the guitar, which propelled her songwriting. After what she calls her “quarter-life” crisis, Katye left her great job to pursue music full-time.
While at the CW, Katye met incredible people who believe in her and connected her with industry leaders. With the help of CW33 GM, Joe Young, and VP Cumulus Dallas/Houston, Dan Bennett, she found herself in contact with Brian Philips, CMT President, and his VP, Leslie Fram. After hearing her music, Ms. Fram invited her to play for the CMT talent team. In response to Katye’s performance, she said, “I was impressed by your voice and overall confidence.” She was confident Katye could survive the infamous radio boot-camp, and they both believe she has the endurance and drive that it takes to make it.
While this Texas girls’ home is in country, Katye’s diverse taste in genres inspired her sound and songwriting, creating a unique, bluesy texture and tone. Influences include Bonnie Raitt to Patsy Cline.
Katye wrapped up shows at the Houston Rodeo, San Antonio Rodeo, and Rodeo Austin, and shared the stage with Tracy Lawrence, John Conlee, Johnny Lee, Jack Ingram, and more. Katye’s anxious to release her first EP this spring which was recorded at Station West (Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Alan Jackson, Allison Krause) with top notch producers and A-List musicians featuring: Mike Waldron/Guitar (Lee Ann Womack, Trace Atkins, Jon Bon Jovi), Jerry McPherson/Electric Guitar (Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride), Howard Duck/Keys (Luke Bryan, Rascal Flatts), Russ Pahl/Steel Guitar (Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, FGL) Tommy Harden/Drums (Reba McIntyre, Blake Shelton), Alison Prestwood/Bass (Brooks & Dunn, Vince Gill, Blake Shelton) Perry Coleman/Background Vocals (Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley). It mastered by world-renowned mastering engineer, Andrew Mendelson (The Rolling Stones, Keith Urban, Willie Nelson, Lady A, Little Big Town). Katye’s self-titled EP was released March 24th. Her first single, “Love Is Like Rain” (Rivers Rutherford: “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You” - Brooks & Dunn, “Real Good Man” - Tim McGraw, AND Marty Dodson: “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right” – Billy Currington, “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven” – Kenny Chesney) shipped to radio in April and is still climbing the charts! Katye can't wait to see what doors God will open next.
