Kool Kat is earning the love of fans and jazz aficionados alike with her unique and retitled interpretation ‘My Funky Valentine’. The album also features the crossover hit “Necessary Groove”, the soulful anthem “Epic Love”, the sensual “Mermaid” (featuring Latin Grammy winner and virtuoso flutist Nestor Torres) and the humorous "Zip Zad Zowee". The album also features her trademark ballad, the soaring, heart-wrenching “My Shoes Are Leaking”, a Veterans Tribute about a couple separated by military deployment which effortlessly merges the classic with the contemporary.
Kool Kat has been surrounded by world-class classical and jazz musicians since childhood. She began creating music at age four and performed her first jazz vocal solo at five. A third-generation musician, she studied music with her concert pianist mother. Her father was a pioneering scholar, trombonist and arranger who toured with The Boston Pops and played under legends Stravinsky and Hindemith. After conservatory study, she graduated with highest honors from Boston’s Berklee College of Music. She has appeared on Good Morning America, NBC 6 and Telemundo. She has toured throughout the US and abroad, appearing on stages with Tito Puente Jr and Celia Cruz. A Los Angeles Music Award Winner for "Female Singer/Songwriter of the Year" she has shared her formidable spirit with athletic fans at The Miami Marathon, The Ericsson Open (the only female artist) and NASCAR.
A passionate humanitarian, Kool Kat is active encouraging music's role in improving inter-cultural relations and tolerance as the founder of Music for Peace International. She also mentored Los Angeles inner-city youth and served for two consecutive years as Celebrity Voice Judge for the Los Angeles Music Center's Annual Spotlight Awards. Finally, she organized six benefit concerts in major cities.
She supports music education, human and animal rights and ethnic unity.
