Ilia Darlin is a Greek-born recording artist,currently based in Los Angeles.
Her name was inspired by the leading actress of “Never on Sunday, Melina Merkouri, by Julles Dassin.
Classically trained at the National Music Conservatory of Athens,Ilia started her career in an underground electro punk band called Stiletto Scag.
In 2009 she caught the attention of the biggest selling director of Greece,Nikos Perakis, and starred in “Art Therapy”,a docu-fiction film,based on the lives of three young artists trying to make it in Athens.Both her acting and singing performance received rave reviews provoking writers to name her as “The next biggest thing” and the “Greek renaissance”.
The same year she moved to London to pursue a singing career where she performed for MTV in Camden as well as at the after show of Jean Pierre Braganza in London Fashion Week 2011.
Recording ventures have taken Ilia to LA for a collaboration project with Konvict Muzik (co-owned by hip hop singer Akon) and Universal.They record “Car Crash” for which Ilia is later nominated for “Fashion Icon in a Music Video” at the Greek Music Awards.
Ilia has met with widespread adoration for her style, lyricism, and vibrant live performances. Aside from featuring largely in Greek media such as Greek Vogue, MTV, and Ant1, Ilia featured on the cover of trendy London fashion and music publication Super Super Magazine, who described her as “The most exciting thing to come from Mount Olympus since the muses”.
In May 2011 she’s nominated for “International Greek Woman” at the “Women Awards” in Athens and a few months later she signs with EMI Greece.
Days later she flies to New York and collaborates with the successful American record producer and songwriter Billy Mann,producer of Pink,Robyn,Cher,Kelly Rowland,Celine Dion and many other artists.
In 2012 she releases her first single and gets featured in POPJustice,with “Hit me” being the song of the day,placing Ilia in the international music map.
Ilia performs for the second time at the Greek Fashion Rocks and a few months later releases her second single “Even When I lose I’m Winning”.Ilia is a regular on Greek MTV and has topped the chart of the audience choice chart on MADTV, Greece’s most popular music channel.
Her unique style and magnetism, a combination of ingredients and experiences from her trips and her artistic journey,have attracted acclaim from blogs from all around the world.
Hard, synth-driven production, infectious vocal melodies, and sublime lyrics combine to make her a new and exciting musical force that has artistic integrity and public appeal in equal measure.
