Burkenburg is an industrial metal band which originates from Canberra, Australia. The band was formed in June 2012 and consists of Jarrad Burke (lead vocals), Aaron Roberts (drums and electronic percussion), James Tolstrup (guitar), and Ricky "Dr. Schmidt" Stickland (keyboards and backing vocals).
Coming from an English speaking nation, Burkenburg composes songs which are in different languages, notably German and Romanian, but most songs are in English. Burkenburg was officially signed to a record label on 7 February 2013. In late 2012, Burkenburg announced its first album was to be a German titled name, though most songs are English, called "Verrücktheit". The album is officially being composed and is expected to be released by June or July in 2013. There has been no change in their band line-up. There is no literal translation of "Burkenburg" but a guessed meaning would be "Burke Fortress".

Founding and Verrücktheit (2011-2013) edit:
Burkenburg was founded by lead vocalist and drummer Jarrad Burke and Aaron Roberts, but have been performing together as far back during late 2011. In June 2012, both original members wanted to recreate a cover of Rammstein's song Du Hast, due to being heavy influenced by German metal. Because of these actions, the two members of the band officially established Burkenburg. A problem for them is they did not have any guitar players nor any keyboardist, so they decided to look for members who would be interested to join the newly formed band. While doing this, they knew what type of genre they'd perform, as Jarrad envisioned heavy guitar riffs and sounds of anger. One week into searching, they discovered one of their close friends, James Tolstrup, was a professional guitar player and could also play on bass guitar. They also were slightly beforehand actually hearing him were told he was talented at playing electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and bass guitars.
Burkenburg by now contained three members, but insisted of finding a keyboardist. They did not really worry much about finding a bass guitarist (though by now they are seeking one) since James had the ability to play one. In late 2012, by September, Ricky Stickland (who is normally called Dr. Schmidt) found out about Burkenburg was searching for members, which sparked his attention. Recruiting Ricky would be the "final step" on having a full complete sound. Burkenburg later recruited Ricky by early October.
Burkenburg announced in January that they are planning and composing their very first album titled Verrücktheit, and is expected to be released by June-July 2013. Eleven songs have been proposed to be in the album and according to the band, all the instrumentals have been "complete". Burkenburg was signed to a record company (unknown yet, but guessed as Atlantic Records) on 7 February 2013. While composing it, Burkenburg has added two bonus tracks, including a cover of another Rammstein song called Du Riechst So Gut. It has been noted a single is also going to be created by Burkenburg, but it is unknown when it will be released.
On 27 February, Burkenburg released the instrumentals of Lunacy and Death Stare, which gave them a boost in popularity, most particularly in their hometown and other Australian major cities. Their songs are heavily based on Rammstein songs, but do not come to that point they actually are. A possible scheduled tour has been planned for Burkenburg in the year 2014 or 2015.
Today, Burkenburg is rising in popularity, with their YouTube account at 3.0 million views and over 8,000 subscribers. The proposed tour mentioned before is called "Burkenburg Australian Tour of 2014-15". Not much information however on the tour is known.

Burkenburg has took itself to be mostly generalised as Neue Deutsche Härte (New German Hardness), though most songs are English written. Their music spans a variety of styles, which includes industrial music and heavy metal. Some songs may also be completely off the "metal genres".
Burkenburg is known for its hardness and dark songs. Burke's bass voice also adds to the effect of how dark the songs are, "sending people running to shelter", stated by Aaron Roberts. Another comment made by Roberts was "Jarrad Burke is not the type of person to be violent, he still can be twice as brutal than a fight which contained a machete wound in the back. It'll seem like a massacre, even if there was no violence." More comments by the member include "our blend of heavy metal, with Burke's darkness, creates an atmosphere of a large scale apocalypse." Jarrad Burke commented "We can't have a singer like Justin Bieber doing heavy metal, it can't work. We need darkness in metal, sort of."
Burkenburg has songs mostly in English, but they have also composed a few songs entirely in German, considering Burke comes from an Austrian background. Their bonus track All Nightmare Long has some slight translation of Romanian, while Lunatic Asylum has a line in Romanian, like All Nightmare Long. Jarrad Burke commented about why he has songs in German, stating "German is an angry language. You can sense it clearly in its tone and rhythm. I may be making songs in English, but I must have to add German songs since they make the song so powerful, really."
The main elements which make Burkenburg songs is how different and unique their meanings are. However, some songs meanings are rather to difficult to figure out. Some will probably be controversial, but are expressed in a persons point of view in the song. For example, it seems that in every song a person is telling the person the story of the scenario from their perspective. Most of their songs tend to be brutal.
Some of their songs are based off real people and events. These songs include Death Stare (about a very unattractive person they know), The Lonely Stalker (about one of Jarrad's stalkers during his final year of high school in 2012), Lunatic Asylum (about overall insanity on the planet and briefly mentions the Beechworth Asylum, and Silent Cries (about a time in Burke's life about an event which occurred a few years).
Du Hast, originally created by Rammstein, is becoming a discussion among fans about its lyrical phrase. It is a foreplay on German marriage vows. Since Du Hast (You Have) and Du Hasst (You Hate), is almost pronounced exactly the same way, the song confuses fans, which do not know if the song is "You Have" or "You Hate". Burkenburg supports that it is literally "You Have", and their recover will not be known as Du Hasst. However, the song could also have a double meaning into it.
