SMH At These 6 Interns Who Royally Messed Up On Social Media
Interns are the essentially the babies of the workplace. They often need guidance, coddling and -- as demonstrated by the evidence below -- constant supervision. Of course, not all interns are incompetent. Many of them take the opportunity and training seriously, growing and blossoming into the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed overeager employees they were meant to be. That is, except for the interns and fellows responsible for the cringe-inducing mistakes below.
1. CSIS tells Amnesty to "suck it"
Last week, the Center for Strategic and International Studies -- a prominent think tank that hosts leaders from all around the world -- had words with Amnesty International over Twitter:
The offending tweet was promptly deleted and replaced with an apology:
"The tweet in no way reflects CSIS's views," reads the statement. "It was sent by a CSIS intern who had access to our account for monitoring purposes. The intern wrongly assumed that this tweet was being sent from his personal account when in fact it was sent while logged in to CSIS’s twitter account." Good going, intern.
2. Anti-gay congressman retweets pro-gay message
Back in 2011, comedian Tracy Morgan made anti-gay remarks during his one of his performances. Lots of people -- including Tina Fey and Chris Rock -- voiced their disagreement with Morgan following the events. The Scissor Sisters did too, tweeting:
At this point, an intern for former Republican Congressman Allen West retweeted the Scissor Sisters' pro-gay message onto his account. West is known for speaking out against gay marriage, so this retweet caused much confusion. The tweet was deleted, the intern was fired, and West (or whoever started managing his Twitter account) tweeted, "Very sorry about the unauthorized RT. We were not hacked, an intern made an error. Apologies to all." Why was a gay-friendly intern working against marriage equality anyway?
3. 22-year-old manages to get fired before actually starting her job
It's only natural for a newly employed 22-year-old -- not an intern, but close enough -- to express her excitement via Twitter. And that's exactly what one did way back in 2009:
Cisco was less than thrilled about her comments re: fatty paycheck and hating her work. So, she was given the boot even before her first day. That has to be a record.
4. Marc Jacobs goes HAM on CEO
Back in 2011, an intern in charge of the official Marc Jacobs Twitter went on a tirade against the company's CEO, Robert Duffy:
The tweets were soon deleted and replaced with a nonchalant, "All is well here at MJ. Twitter is a crazy place. Protect your passwords." Uh-huh.
5. Pharmaceutical company intern publishes scandalous company rumors
A year ago, an HR intern at Fairpoint Pharmaceuticals reportedly kept a blog detailing scandalous gossip and rumors about her colleagues, including "an affair with his pet goat for the last fifteen years." Ick.
6. The EPA is a C-list celeb in Kim Kardashian West's video game
Last month, the EPA had some groundbreaking news:
The EPA soon tweeted an apology:
"An EPA fellow inadvertently triggered an auto-generated tweet," an EPA spokeswoman told the Washington Post. "She regrets the error and has been advised on the sensitivities of using social media."
But it gets even better -- Representative John Dingell saw the tweet and inquired about this mysterious "Kardashian" term:
