Eskimeaux Finds Humor In The Struggle On Magical 'Year Of The Rabbit'

Stream the EP in its entirety below

Gabrielle Smith is looking back.

"2011: The Year of the Rabbit," she prefaces her latest release as Esmkimeaux. "I am feeling good/ Are you mad?" Her ethereal vocals are light as air, and yet her words are like a deliberate punch to the stomach.

Smith's delicate voice blankets Year Of The Rabbit, Eskimeaux's new EP grounded in sparse, shimmering backgrounds, near-perfect pop sensibilities, and, perhaps most importantly, a sense of humor.

“Wish I could love you less like a praying mantis/ Rip your head off every time this starts to feel right," Smith croons on the cool, swaying "Power." Later, on "Bulldog," she's ruminating on the passing of time while comparing herself to "a bulldog in a white wedding dress."

Year Of The Rabbit balances isolation and connection, love and loss, light and dark -- and the beauty of finding everything that lies in between. Through its six nimble tracks, Smith assesses the curious dynamic between herself and herself, herself and others, herself and the world.

"What the fuck is this feeling?" she asks on the aptly titled "WTF." Um, same.
