"Breaking Bad" became one of those shows that almost instantly developed a cult following, and the respective fates of mild-mannered science teacher turned drug dealer Walter White and perpetual smart mouth Jesse Pinkman became a source of obsession for super fans.
So when the spin-off prequel show "Better Call Saul" centered around the duo's sleazy yet lovable lawyer Saul Goodman was announced, we were hopeful that Jesse and Walt would make a few cameos in the new series.
But apparently, that's just not going to happen. Goodbye hopes, goodbye dreams...
"Walt and Jesse will not appear in season one," executive producer Peter Gould told the crowd at the 2015 Winter TCA Press Tour during AMC's presentation today. "We want this to stand on its own. We don't want to mislead people in expecting something that's not going to happen. But having said that, everything else is on the table."
Okay, so there's still hope? The season premiere of "Better Call Saul" is February 8—mere weeks away. Bryan Cranston would have no problem pulling off a slightly younger Walt, but Aaaron Paul would face more of a challenge portraying Jesse six years before the events of "Breaking Bad," since he'd technically be a middle school and high school student. Surely they can figure out a way to pull that off, though.
In the meantime, here's a longer trailer for the season:
