#TBMTV: Beyoncé On Her Dazzling, Dangling 2003 VMAs Entrance

‘I was dangling for a good minute or so!’ the pop star says in this MTV News clip

When Beyoncé performed at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, she planned a very special entrance: A complex system of harnesses and pulleys held her suspended many feet in the air, upside down, before she was lowered to the stage for a hot medley of her then-new hits “Baby Boy” and “Crazy in Love.” She rehearsed the move thoroughly before trying it on live TV. The only problem? On the night of the show, Beyoncé ended up hanging in the air way longer than she expected to. “I’d never hung that long!” she told MTV News in this clip from later that year. “The people who were accepting the award, I don’t know if they were aware I was hanging that high — so I was dangling for a good minute or so. I’m like, ‘OK!’”
