Ice Cube, Ex-Cops And Former Gang Members Explain The History Of ‘F—k Tha Police’

Cube explains why the track's still relevant.

How did cops react when N.W.A dropped their controversial “F—k Tha Police” single? Well, obviously, some were upset by it. After all, just look at the song's title. But apparently, not all cops were outraged by the 1988 cut.

Tim “Blondie” Brennan, a former Compton Police officer revealed why he wasn't too upset by the track in “The Story Of ‘F—k Tha Police,” a mini-doc by Noisey.

“When that song came out, I don’t think it bothered us as much,” said Brennan, who appears in the film with his former partner Robert Ladd. “On a daily basis, we dealt with these guys. We worked the gangs quite a bit and we kind of understood it. Other places that were further removed, smaller towns across the country, they were more upset. They were worried."

Ice Cube also appears in the piece. In it, he reflected on the track’s overall impact and why the politically charged track remains significant all across the world.

“'F—k Tha Police’ is something that everybody at some point wants to say," the legendary rapper said. "In every nook and cranny, every country, people have a problem with authority so the song is always gonna have a place, a song that people feel like is their anthem. As long as we have this problem, that song is gonna be relevant.”

Cube and other "Straight Outta Compton" cast members spoke with MTV News earlier this year about the film's statement regarding law enforcement officials, race and more.
