6 Artists, One Epic Night - Find Out Who’s Performing At The VMAs
I hope you’re sitting down, because we are about to hit you with a TON of Video Music Awards performers.
Six, yes six, performers have been announced today and they check off the boxes for all of you that love pop, hip-hop and rock.
So who is it? Taking the stage at this year’s VMAs are none other than Demi Lovato, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Twenty One Pilots and Tori Kelly.
This night is clearly shaping up to be a memorable one with this all-star lineup joining previously announced performer The Weeknd.
Some of these artists have performed at the VMAs before, while others are attending for the very first time, so before they take the stage this year get to know their VMA past.
Demi Lovato
VMA History: This may be the first time that Demi Lovato has performed on the main stage, but the "Cool For The Summer" singer has had a long history with the VMAs. She lit up the red carpets in 2008, 2011 and 2014, but it was in 2012 that she literally took over the pre-show. Demi performed her song, "Give Your Heart A Break" in a sea of thousands of red confetti hearts, which rained down upon her. Right after her big performance, Demi won the Moonman for Best Video With a Message for her song "Skyscraper."
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
VMA History: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are back, and we couldn't be more excited to have them perform at the VMAs. In 2013, the two, along with Mary Lambert and surprise guest Jennifer Hudson, delivered a show-stopping performance of their marriage equality anthem, "Same Love," which earned them the VMA for Best Video with a Social Message. That night the duo took home two more awards, Best Hip Hop Video and Best Cinematography for "Can't Hold Us."
Pharrell
VMA History: It's hard to believe, but this is the first time Pharrell will be taking the VMA stage as a solo artist. He performed back in 2006 with the Pussycat Dolls and Ludacris for the rapper's hit "Money Maker." In 2002, he also joined Diddy, Usher, Busta Rhymes and Ginuwine for a 5-minute medley that included "Bad Boy for Life” and "Pass the Courvoisier."
Tori Kelly
VMA History: This will not only be the first time Tori, who recently released her debut album, Unbreakable Smile, has performed at the VMAs, it's the first time she's actually attending. Last year she took the stage at the VMA Lifebeat concert with Sam Smith and Iggy Azalea, but this year, it's time for the big stage -- and with her guitar skills and ah-mazing voice, there's no question that she's going to kill it.
A$AP Rocky
VMA History: A$AP's heading back to the VMA stage, but this time it's without Rihanna. The rapper joined Rih for her performance of her single "Cockiness" in 2012, and took the opportunity to plant a big kiss on Rihanna’s face and squeeze her behind for everyone to see. The rapper also attended the show in 2013 and is nominated this year for Best Editing for his video, ""L$D"
Twenty One Pilots
VMA History: Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun haven't performed at the VMAs, but they know what it's like to bring the energy to an MTV awards show. In 2014, the guys performed an electric and memorable performance of their single, "Car Radio," complete with a piano, fist-pumping and the entire crowd wearing their signature white ski masks at the MTV Movie Awards.
