Dan Aykroyd Confirms Bill Hader, Anna Faris And Eliza Dushku As 'Strong Possibilities' For 'Ghostbusters 3'

Indiewire reports that in an interview with Chicago radio station WGN, scribe and original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd confirmed some of the casting rumors that have been swirling around for the past few months. According to Aykroyd, "SNL" funnyman Bill Hader is a "strong possibility" to star in the film, and Aykroyd is also banking on the participation of Anna Faris and Eliza Dushku.

Those three are added to the list of the previously on-board Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver. Aykroyd didn't mention whether Will Forte or original cast members Rick Moranis and Ernie Hudson, who were all rumored to have cameos, might be in for the film... but we wouldn't rule them out just yet. If anything's clear, it's that Aykroyd knows who he's gonna call when he needs some onscreen backup.

Aykroyd, Ramis and Murray will likely take on mentor roles for the third installment of the "Ghostbusters" series, which is paving the way for another younger star to take the lead. Rumor is that baby Oscar, who was introduced in "Ghostbusters 2," will be all grown up by "3" and ready to take on the family business. Is it just me, or does Hader seem like the perfect man for that job?

If that's where the casting ends up heading, then Dushku, Faris and (hopefully) Forte would be the perfect cast to back up Hader as the new head of the Ghostbusters. I'm thinking Faris and Forte might be better suited to co-Busters, while Dushku will serve as a romantic interest, but that's pure speculation. When we spoke to Dushku in October, she said she would be willing to play Weaver's character's sister, but we have a feeling she might be hanging out with the younger crowd in this flick.

"Ghostbusters 3" is slated to start filming in spring 2011, with a release date by Christmas 2012. With all these casting confirmations flying through, it looks like we're that much closer to the film finally hitting theaters. Then again, none of this is official... so cross those fingers and pray that cinemas get slimed sooner rather than later.

Who do you hope gets cast in "Ghostbusters 3"?
