Miley Cyrus Has Recorded A Whole Album With The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne

The longtime friends have written and recorded seven original songs together.

Miley Cyrus's friendship with The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne is well documented, but it turns out the wacky pair have been up to more than just making weird short films together. In a new interview with Billboard, Coyne revealed he's sitting on a whole album of songs he recorded with the 22-year-old pop star.

Cyrus and Coyne collaborated on a recent Beatles tribute album, but it sounds like their unreleased seven-track record is full of new material. "She does the pop thing so great, so it still feels pop, but a slightly wiser, sadder, more true version," Coyne said.

Coyne and his Lips bandmate Steven Drozd are currently working on mixing the record at their studio in Oklahoma City. It was recorded both there and in Cyrus's home in Los Angeles.

There's no album title or release date just yet, but it sounds like the record is a product of real friendship. "We've just been getting in each other's worlds. We text every day—sometimes three times, sometimes a thousand," Coyne said.
