A spoonful of sugar might help the medicine go down but it was a shot of espresso that brought Johnee Ayson's love for Disney princesses to life.
While scrolling through Instagram, the freelance graphic designer stumbled across the user @sleevebucks, who transforms the signature Starbucks siren into a slew of different characters. From Harry Potter to Darth Vader the account has reimagined the iconic coffee sleeve logo into an array of pop culture favorites.
But the 29-year-old designer noticed that Mickey and his pals were underrepresented, so he decided to do something about it.
"I clicked on one of the images and was like, ‘Wow, he did a Link from Zelda.’ So I went to his page and he does all of these different [characters],” Johnee explained to MTV News. "So I wanted to do my own, and that’s when I was like, ‘I want to see some Disney characters here.’ ”
Before he knew it, Johnee had doodled an entire collection. Take a look at the series below:
The next cartoon Johnee plans to release is of Captain Hook (which is featured in the photo at the very top of this article -- and why the headline says "See 16 Starbucks Sleeves Transformed Into Disney Characters," not 15) and because "Lilo & Stitch" is one of his all time favorite Disney movies, there's a good chance you'll be seeing the spirit of Hawaii in his upcoming sketches.
"I would like to Lilo at some point and I was thinking of possibly doing Stitch, I just don’t know if he’d fit the face, we’ll see," he said. "I mean, I got Wall-E."
The gentleman decked out in Mickey memorabilia above is Johnee himself. If he looks familiar, you may recognize him from the YouTube channel 5awesomegays which starred him, internet sensation Tyler Oakley and three other vloggers sounding off on an array of topics.
"We posted videos throughout each weekday and each week we would have a theme, it wouldn’t necessarily have to be gay related, it would just be fun," he said. "We’d interact with our audience a lot and just make people smile, laugh and feel welcomed."
