Slayer, Hatebreed Doing Double Duty On This Year's Ozzfest

Two are among several acts playing shows on fest's off days.

Foundations will shake and eardrums will ache along this year's Ozzfest trail -- not just because the lineup is the most brutal to date, but because, once again, most of the headliners and many of the second-stage acts will play concerts on off days in smaller markets along the way.

Slayer and Hatebreed will begin hooking up for off-fest shows soon after Ozzfest's July 10 launch in Hartford, Connecticut (see [article id="1485231"]"Judas Priest, Slayer, Slipknot To Join Ozzy On Ozzfest"[/article]). Judas Priest will join them for at least two shows.

"I didn't think we were gonna get an offer from Priest," Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta said. "I thought it was just gonna be us and Slayer, then we got a call [from Priest's management] for one show, and then another. Hopefully some more will come in."

Judas Priest's publicist would not confirm the band's off dates.

While Jasta is thrilled to be opening for Judas Priest, he also looks forward to sharing the stage with Slayer, a band Hatebreed have toured with before and whose guitarist Kerry King guested on Hatebreed's 2002 album, Perseverance.

"Those guys have done more for our band over the years than just about anybody," Jasta said. "They treat us so well, and their fans are great to us. We didn't really want to do a show with anybody else but [Slayer], but when it came down to it, you never say no to Priest and Halford."

Hatebreed also hope to play some club shows with second-stage band DevilDriver, fronted by ex-Coal Chamber singer Dez Fafara.

Also on Ozzfest off dates, second-stage headliners Slipknot will headline a bill featuring main-stage openers Superjoint Ritual (fronted by ex-Pantera singer Phil Anselmo) and second-stage act God Forbid. Further underground, Scandinavian black metal band Dimmu Borgir, who are on Ozzfest's main stage, will play with second-stage acts Bleeding Through and Lacuna Coil. Second-stagers Lamb of God, Atreyu, Every Time I Die and Unearth will tour together as well.
