Remy Ma's First Post-Jail Mixtape Is Coming Sooner Than You Think

Her 'I'm Around' could be out by next week.

After more than half a decade behind bars, Remy Ma was released from prison earlier this month, and jumped right back on the mic. Within her first two weeks home, she released "They Don't Love You No More," a remix of DJ Khaled's single, and "MegaDeath," alongside French Montana, Jadakiss and Swizz Beatz. Now, her first full post-jail project is right around the corner.

"I'm trying to have it done by this weekend, so I can put it out next week," the Bronx native told MTV News when we caught up with her on Wednesday.

The new release will be titled I'm Around, and you can expect the project to both be a way for Rem to reflect on what she's been through, and to remind people that she can really flex in the booth.

"It's kind of impossible, after being in prison for six-and-a-half-years, and being home for 19 days, to only talk about what I'm going through right now [adjusting to," she said. "It's very hard not to bring up what I went through. Even though, in the future, I don't want to keep dwelling on the past. I don't want to dwell in the past now, but that was a large part of my life, so it has affected me in a lot of ways, and it will show in my music."

Plus, she's hard at work on an album, which she hopes to release soon, as well. And though she's had plenty of requests for features, with her peers clearly excited to welcome her back, Remy wants to be sure to find a balance.

"I've been really focusing on my own solo records right now," she added. "I feel like I haven't been able to put forth my best, or what I wanted to do, so before I get too overwhelmed with doing everyone else's things, I want to make sure I have my own Remy thing going on."
