Bay Area Rapper The Jacka Shot Dead In Oakland

Bay Area rapper, The Jacka, was shot and killed in East Oakland on Monday night.

According to CBS, the 37-year-old rapper born, Dominic Newton, was shot near MacArthur Boulevard and 94th Avenue in Oakland, with witnesses reporting that multiple shots were fired around 8:15 p.m. on Monday night.

Just last year The Jacka released an independent album with Freeway called Highway Robbery. At the time he told MTV News that he's released between 35 and 40 indie albums since the beginning of his career.

“I wanted to get a deal at one point when I was younger,” he said. “It would’ve been stupid to wait.”

The Jacka made a name for himself as part of the Mob Figaz's rap crew in the '90s, and went on to release his first solo album Jacka of the Mob Figaz in 2001.

When news of his death was announced, artists including Freeway, took to Twitter and Instagram to say goodbye to the accomplished West Coast emcee.

"O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him and give him strength and pardon him," Freeway wrote. "Be generous to him and cause his entrance to be wide and wash him with water and snow and hail. Cleanse him of his transgressions as white cloth is cleansed of stains. Give him an abode better than his home, and a family better than his family and a wife better than his wife. Take him into Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave [and from the punishment of Hell-fire].Ameen! Love you bro!!"
