Drop Everything: Cole Sprouse Is Returning To TV In New CW Pilot

Just so we're clear, this means he's contractually obligated to be shirtless.

Things are looking pretty suite for Cole Sprouse.

After graduating from New York University this past May (with a degree in archaeology, NBD), the former Disney Channel star, along with his twin brother Dylan, plan to pursue acting again. Now, at the age of 23, Cole has booked his first television gig since Suite Life on Deck wrapped in 2011.

Cole has been cast as heartthrob Jughead Jones in the CW's high school drama, Riverdale, Deadline reports. Cole Sprouse, CW heartthrob? We like the way that sounds. Based on the characters and town immortalized in the Archie comics, the series is a "dark and twisty" take on the seemingly wholesome town of Riverdale and its teen residents Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Josie -- as in, Josie and the Pussycats (!).

Archie Comics

Archie - The CW

Jughead is Archie's former best friend, and their falling out remains a sore subject between them. In the comics, Jughead is generally depicted as lazy and obsessed with food, but the CW series will take a different approach -- in other words, he's just ~ cool ~. This being the CW, after all, we wouldn't be surprised if Cole is now contractually obligated to be shirtless -- not that he has anything to worry about.

There's also no word yet on whether Riverdale's Jughead will be asexual, as revealed in one of the more recent Archie comics. Given the CW's history with telling authentic teen narratives, we'd love to see an asexual character represented on primetime.

Now, before you scoff at the idea of bringing these beloved comic book characters to life, just wait until you hear who's responsible for the crazy idea: Greg Berlanti. Yes, the man responsible for all of your favorite shows -- Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. Did we mention that he has an impeccable TV record?

Needless to say, with Sprouse on deck, we think Berlanti has another hit on his hands.
