Better Than Ezra 'Honored' By Taylor Swift's Performance Of 'Breathless' At Haiti Telethon

'Obviously, we were thrilled when she performed 'Breathless,' ' Better Than Ezra's Kevin Griffin said of Swift's cover of the band's song at 'Hope for Haiti Now.'

[artist id="2389485"]Taylor Swift[/artist] took to the stage on Friday for the [article id="1630348"]"Hope for Haiti" telethon[/article], and like many of the musicians on hand to help raise funds for the earthquake victims, she covered a song with appropriate sentiment for the event. However, while many of the performers chose more recognizable tunes like "Hallelujah," "Lean on Me" and "Let It Be," Swift chose to sing the [artist id="470"]Better Than Ezra[/artist] tune "Breathless," off the band's 2005 album, Before the Robots.

Just days before Swift decided to cover the tune, the band received word that the song was in the running as a possible contender for Swift's performance. Her choice wasn't out of left field; Swift has covered Better Than Ezra songs, like "Our Last Night," in the past.

"We found out early last week that there was a good chance Taylor would do one of our songs for the 'Hope for Haiti Now' telethon," Better Than Ezra singer Kevin Griffin told MTV News. "In the past, Taylor has done Better Than Ezra songs live so I knew that she was a fan of the band. Obviously, we were thrilled when she performed 'Breathless.' "

Griffin said that he couldn't have been happier with the pop star's take on his song, adding that it was great to have taken part in the [article id="1630468"]record-setting telethon[/article] in some way. "I really liked her and the band's arrangement. It was an inspired night of music for a truly worthy cause. To have a song that I've written be performed in the company of classics such as 'Lean on Me,' 'Hallelujah' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' was an honor," he said. "We're thrilled with the success of the telethon and feel humbled to have been a part of it."
