At a time when multi-act festival tours are dying off, the world of heavy music will yield yet another one this summer.
Following the success of Ozzfest and the Family Values outing, bands like Slipknot, Sevendust, and Coal Chamber are teaming up for the first annual Tattoo The Earth tour. While details, including additional bands, have yet to be confirmed, the tour's organizers say that they will bring the worlds of hard rock and body ink together for a 30-date outing this summer. While no launch date has been announced yet, those close to the tour believe it will get rolling in August."I think it's a great deal," Coal Chamber frontman Dez Fafara told MTV News last week of the idea of another package tour hitting the road. "I think festivals are a good thing in the United States. Every festival
we've ever been a
part of has been great for us and great for the other bands, and there's lots of them in Europe. There's so many. It's good to have festivals over here." [RealAudio]In addition to two stages' worth of bands, organizers are also promising body piercers, body painters, henna artists, temporary tattoos, and (of course) some of the best tattoo artists in the business, including Paul Booth, Hanky Panky, and Sean Vasquez.Tattoo The Earth rose from the minds at New York's BeatCo (who are producing the event) and The Agency Group (which is booking the tour). The Agency Group also counts Slipknot, Sevendust, and Coal Chamber among its usual clients.
