Ghostface Haunts The New York City Subways In 'Scream VI' Teaser
I’m afraid we are not in Woodsboro anymore. Ghostface is back to terrorize survivors for Scream VI — in New York City.
A teaser trailer for the latest installment in the beloved horror franchise dropped Wednesday morning (December 14). Set on Halloween night, the clip finds Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), her sister Tara (Jenna Ortega), and friend Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) — the central characters of this year’s reboot/sequel Scream — riding a crowded subway train with passengers dressed in scary costumes. A few are dressed as Ghostface, naturally, and one of them stares especially hard at the camera. It unnerves the girls, and just as the subway lights experience a power cut, Ghostface grabs Mindy by the throat before the screen blackens with a slash.
Ahead of Scream’s release in early 2022, Ortega told MTV News about the heightened brutality of the iconic killer in more modern sequels. “I hope people take away the intensity of Ghostface this time around. He’s a lot more aggressive and he’s very intimidating,” she said. “It gets graphic in a way that Scream hasn’t seen before, and it gets gory, which makes this killer stand out and shift into a bigger and better horror from the brutality to the score.”
Franchise veterans Courteney Cox and Hayden Panettiere will return for Scream VI as Gale Weathers and Kirby Reed, respectively. Newcomers include Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and more.
Unfortunately, franchise star Neve Campbell will not return to the sixth installment as Sidney Prescott. In an exclusive interview with People magazine in June 2022, she revealed she was unhappy with her offer to return for the upcoming film. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” Campbell said. “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
Scream VI will directly follow 2022’s Scream, and it is set to be released in theaters on March 10, 2023.
