Lee Ann Womack Challenges Chad Brock For Top Spot

Womack has had four #2 singles and is edging again toward #1.

NASHVILLELee Ann Womack, who has never had a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, is trying hard. Her "I Hope You Dance" leaps from #6 to #2 this week and is nipping at the heels of the #1 song, Chad Brock's "Yes!"

This is Brock's second consecutive week at #1 on the chart, which reflects country radio play. Womack's "I Hope You Dance" (RealAudio excerpt) is her fourth #2 hit.

"The Chain of Love" by Clay Walker remains at #3, "Couldn't Last a Moment" by Collin Raye moves to #4 from #5 and "The Way You Love Me" by Faith Hill drops to #5.

Debuting this week are Jessica Andrews at #55 with "I Do Now," Clint Black's "Love She Can't Live Without" at #59, Sawyer Brown's "Perfect World" at #61, Ricky Van Shelton's "The Decision" at #71 and "Tired of Loving This Way" at #74 by Collin Raye with Bobbie Eakes. Shelton's entry is a song he wrote 10 years ago about abortion but had never recorded before because his record label felt the climate wasn't suitable for a song addressing the subject.

In other chart action, Jo Dee Messina's "That's the Way" gets the Billboard "airpower" nod as it moves from #22 to #20."One Voice" by Billy Gilman moves to #37 from #42 after five weeks on the chart.
