Lance Bass Gets *NSync With Nashville

Member of teen superstar act signs country singer to new label.

NASHVILLE*NSync group member Lance Bass said he's launching his own record label — Free Lance Entertainment — and that he's signed 16-year-old country singer Meredith Edwards as the label's first artist.

Edwards knew Bass growing up in Clinton, Miss., and performed with him in a group known as the Mississippi Showstoppers. Her debut album, due later this year, may be issued in a joint agreement with Mercury Nashville.

Bass said he would hold a talent audition here July 9 at Planet Hollywood, as part of a series of such auditions at other cities across the country, to evaluate future artists for the label.

*NSync have long-established ties with Nashville.

*NSync recorded "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You" (RealAudio excerpt) with country group Alabama. The track was a #3 country-radio chart hit in 1999. *NSync performed it with Alabama on September's Country Music Association Awards show.

*NSync's vocal coach, Robin Wiley, lives in Nashville and was instrumental in the group's founding. Several of the group's songs have been written by Nashville songwriters.
