Macklemore Shows Off His B-Boy Dance Moves In 'Downtown' Video
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are back!
The duo already dropped "Growing Up" with Ed Sheeran and got super candid in MTV News' "Fully Human" mini-doc. Now, ahead of their 2015 MTV VMA performance, they've unleashed their music video for "Downtown." And we can't wait to see how the song plays out on a live stage, on Sunday night, August 30.
The moped-filled video features rap icons Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee and Melle Mel, among others. It's a bugged-out blend of old school hip-hop and the quirkiness that helped "Thrift Shop" pop. Here's how "Downtown" plays out:
Here are some old school dance moves for ya.
This is a bit reminiscent of the classic "Warriors" movie...or perhaps it's "West Side Story" inspired? Let's go with "Warriors" meets "West Side Story."
Then, Mack gets down with some graffiti.
Gotta incorporate that element too, right?
Break dancers get love too.
B-boys and B-girls rejoice!
And he rides through it all.
Okay, so this might not be old school hip-hop-inspired, but it just goes to show the video's multiple influences. I mean, there's even a full-on parade at the end!
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - who directed the video along with Jason Koenig - are slated to hit the stage at this weekend's MTV Video Music Awards to perform "Downtown" for the first time. Remember what happened last time they did this? Tune in on Sunday to see how they top their last VMA performance.
