'Star Wars' Fans Follow The Force ... To The Wrong Theater

Fans began lining up Saturday -- 46 days before 'Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith' opens.

The Force may not have led them to the dark side, but it definitely put them on the wrong side. Fans in Hollywood began lining up for "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" on Saturday -- 46 days before the flick hits the screen -- only they've been standing in the wrong line, according to Variety.

Hard-core fans began the countdown to the movie's May 19 opening outside the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard over the weekend, but nobody told them that the movie will actually be playing a few blocks east at the ArcLight Theater.

You might as well have been speaking in Huttese, because as of Tuesday, at least 11 people remained in line at Grauman's, doing their homework and working away on their laptops.

"We've heard all this before," fan Sarah Sprague told Variety. Apparently, when the first two episodes opened in 1999 and 2002, there were false rumors that the movies would not open at the legendary theater, which also hosted the premiere of the original "Star Wars" in 1977.

Though no deal has been finalized, FOX execs said they don't expect the movie to open at Grauman's.

That hasn't stopped this bunch, who hope that their presence will convince the powers-that-be to change their minds.

"This is still the epicenter for 'Star Wars' fans," Sprague said. "For the big iconic pictures of the 1970s, people lining up were here." Besides, they're trying to raise money for the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation (which benefits ill children), and they're more likely to solicit donations on Hollywood Boulevard than on Sunset Boulevard. Fans also grumbled that if the movie does screen at the ArcLight it will allow fans to buy tickets online, letting them leapfrog over those who have been waiting in line.

Ironically, for at least one fan, being among the first in line, even if it's at the wrong theater, is more important than actually seeing the movie.

"The telling thing is -- to me, at least -- if the film is not playing at the Chinese ... I have zero desire to see it at all," said a fan calling himself Obi Geewhyen, posting on message board. "I'm in it for the lineup only and don't give a darn about the conclusion of this lackluster, so-called 'Star Wars' series."

Another fan posted, "We are choosing to line up at the best theater in the world, where the first "Star Wars" film premiered and where the final "Star Wars" film should premiere."
