The World Turns To Twitter To Express Sorrow, Outrage Over Charleston Killings

There are a range of emotions here from Hillary Clinton and John Legend to Taylor Swift and President Obama.

On Thursday (June 18), the world woke up to news of a shooting in a Charleston, South Carolina, church that claimed the lives of nine victims on Wednesday night. And it appears that the shooting was likely racially motivated.

A Charleston police spokesman told CNN that the victims at the historic Methodist church "were killed because they were black" and authorities are investigating the shooting as a hate crime. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Dylann Storm Roof, is in now police custody.

There have been a range of reactions, especially on Twitter where #CharlestonShooting has been trending all morning. A number of celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Chris Pratt, Questlove, Solange Knowles and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton have already weighed in with responses that range from sympathetic to fearful to downright frustrated.
